Dive 1 – Lonsdale Wall
Lonsdale Wall is a spectacular reef dive near Port Phillip Heads, featuring dramatic drop-offs, rocky ledges and overhangs adorned with colourful sponges, soft corals and delicate sea fans. Following the ancient course of the Yarra River, the wall offers fascinating underwater scenery and plenty of crevices to explore for marine life. This boat dive is best enjoyed around slack water, with the chosen section and depth matched to divers’ experience and conditions.

Dive 2 – Castle Rock
Castle Rock is a picturesque reef dive just outside Port Phillip Heads on the Point Lonsdale side, featuring a large rocky bommie rising from the sandy seabed at around 20 metres to approximately 12 metres below the surface. Its ledges, crevices and rocky splits offer plenty to explore, with colourful marine growth and sheltered hiding places for reef fish and the occasional Southern Rock Lobster. Presentation on Project Longshot after dive by Southern Ocean Exploration.

Join us after our boat dive at 2.30pm for a fascinating dive club presentation on Project Longshot by Southern Ocean Exploration. Discover the extraordinary story of the SS Pfalz—the German steamship stopped by a warning shot from Fort Nepean on 5 August 1914, remembered as the first Allied shot of the First World War. From her capture at Port Phillip Heads to her wartime service as the Australian troopship Boorara, this vessel’s remarkable journey connects our local waters with history stretching across the world.

Explore the history and research behind Project Longshot as we follow the ship’s story through wartime survival, changing identities and her eventual wrecking off Canada’s Vancouver Island in 1937. It’s the perfect way to round out a day on the water, bringing together fellow divers, maritime history and the spirit of exploration.
